Additional Driver Policy

Additional driver fee is NAD 96.49 per driver, per rental (exc VAT). All additional drivers details are to be given at the time of rental

Age Requirements

Minimum age is 21 years. Maximum age is 70 years.  Young drivers surcharge of NAD 65.00 per driver, per day applies to driver's between the ages of 21 and 23 years.

Condition of Vehicle

Vehicle must be returned, normal wear & tear expected, in the same condition as when rented. If special cleaning is required a separate charge will be made directly to the customer

Cross Border Policy

Vehicles are NOT permitted into Angola and Zambia. 4 Days advance notification is required for travel into Zimbabwe. A letter of authorization must be requested at the time of reservation for all cross border traveling. National Alamo will not be held responsible if a renter is refused entry into another country. All foreign registered vehicles entering Namibia will have to pay a Cross Border Charge.  A certificate will be issued by the Namibian Authority and must be kept in the glove compartment of the vehicle.  The renter is responsible for the payment of the Cross Border Charge.

A non-refundable fee of NAD1000 will be levied for vehicles crossing into Mozambique and is payable directly by the renter. A penalty fee of up to NAD5000 may be levied if the documentation is not produced. The applicable excess amount will double, should the accident/theft occur outside the borders of South Africa or Namibia. (i.e. Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Botswana, Swaziland & Lesotho). Exception to the rule: Executive Cover - eg. SA Executive Cover taken, the relevant vehicle's Super Cover Excess applies. Should a renter commence with a rental in Namibia and cross the border to South Africa and an accident/theft occurs  - the original Namibian excess still applies

Licence Requirements

Government Legislation requires that whilst driving, the driver/s are required to have a valid unendorsed drivers license in their possession.  Driver/s must have obtained their license at least two years prior to renting a vehicle with National.  An international Driver's license is not required, provided the original license is in English (or any of our SA official languages) either on the license in a seperate accompanying document which is attached as an official translation of the license.

One Way Rentals

Namibia to South Africa = NAD 3300 + TAX.  This fee includes the cross border fee.  One way rentals to Botswana, Swaziland, Lesotho, Mozambique and Zimbabwe are not permitted.  International One-Ways are not allowed

Out of Hours Policy

Pick-up: Will meet the customer at the airport upon their arrival, their name will be printed on a board which the driver will be holding up - no signage is allowed, shuttle them to Windhoek office situated 45km from the airport (at no charge) and complete the rental transaction and relevant paperwork there.

Drop-off: customers may no longer return their vehicles to Windhoek Airport - this must be done at the office in Windhoek.  Once all the necessary paperwork has been completed (approximately 15 minutes) we will then shuttle the customer to the airport (at no charge).

Payment Policy

All major Credit cards are accepted (Visa, Amex, Diners & Mastercard). Also accepted are National vouchers Cash payments, Eurocheques,and Travellers cheques  are not permitted.

A deposit if NAD 1000.00 for fuel and extras with applicable excess/liability (subject to product sold) is required on initiation of the rental. The renter must be in possession of a credit card irrespective of product selection.

A second credit card is required for the followings cars – ICAR, SWAR, FFMR, IVMR, FVMR & LVMR.

Refuelling Policy

Car is supplied with a full tank of fuel; return full or refueling charges will apply.  For info: Credit cards are not accepted at petrol station in Namibia. Fuel can only be purchased with cash..

Roadside Assistance

For breakdown, contact Alamo on the emergency Roadside Assistance toll free number 086 0888 911 (Namibia only, please use the international dialling prefix if phoning from a roaming mobile phone).  We can assist with the following: Minor Mechanical Assistance, Flat Tyre Assistance, Battery Jump-Start, Vehicle Lockout Service, Emergency Fuel Delivery (the cost of fuel added to your account), Extrication/Winching Service, Towing Service and Message Relay Service.  Renters are requested not to replace or repair any vehicle parts unless authorized by Alamo.  Renters who fail to get prior authorization from Alamo will not be reimbursed for expenses incurred.

In case of an accident, the renter is required to contact Alamo immediately on the Emergency Roadside Assistance toll free number 086 0888 911 (Namibia only,  please use the international dialling prefix if phoning from a roaming mobile phone).  A full report must be made to the nearest Police Station within 24 hours where an accident has occurred and 6 hours in the case of theft.  A Case Reference number must be obtained from the Police Station.  An Accident and Theft report must be completed, these are obtainable from any Alamo branch.  Personal belongings stolen or lost during an accident are not covered.  It would be advisable for Renters to obtain personal belonging insurance prior to their trip.

A replacement vehicle will be provided if necessary for Accidents and Breakdown.

This country does not provide reflective jackets and is not required by law to do so.

Exception to the rule: Executive Cover - e.g. Executive Cover taken, the relevant vehicle's Super Cover Excess applies.  Should a renter commence with a rental in Namibia and cross the border to South Africa and an accident/theft occurs - the original Namibian excess still applies.  Please note that a renter is responsible for the full value of the relevant vehicle, should an accident be caused due to negligence.  This option reduces the deductible to zero.

STD -

Collision Damage Waiver & Theft Protection limits the renter's responsibility to the excess amount (subject to product sold) for damage to the vehicle provided the general terms and conditions on the back of the rental agreement have not been violated.  The applicable excess amount will double, should the accident/theft occur outside the borders of Namibia or South Africa (i.e. Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Botswana, Swaziland & Lesotho).  Please note that a renter is responsible for the full value of the relevant vehicle, should an accident be caused due to negligence.

Insurance coverage offered by all major credit cards is accepted as a substitute provided the card holder has a letter from the company stating that they will insure the vehicle for the rental period.  This must be presented at the time of rental.  In the event of damage or theft, the customers credit card will be billed for the relevant amount.  The customer would need to claim the money from their credit card company.

TPL – Third Party Liability

Third Party Liability is included in the rate unless own insurance is taken.  The amount re-imbursed will be subject to the Third Party Recovery.  Should the renter be involved in an accident where the renter did not cause it, the renter is still responsible for the applicable excess until such time as Third Party Recovery has been paid to Alamo.  Alamo will then re-imburse the renter.  Subject to the Third Party Recovery amount.
